Immigrations law in Berlin

Immigration and residence law covers all questions of law to do with the immigration and residence of people in the territory of the Federal Republic of Germany who do not hold German citizenship. From asylum law to right to remain, employment, integration and social security – immigration law impacts almost every aspect of the lives of foreign citizens in Germany.

We focus on specific areas of immigration law but we are more than happy to refer you to a specialist colleague if your query relates to cases outside of these areas.

Our areas of focus are:

Skilled immigration

Whether you’re an academic with professional experience, a Blue Card holder, a prospective student or a trainee, we look after both potential employees and companies in need of advice on the legal aspects of skilled immigration.

Family reunification

Germans and foreign citizens with so-called third-state spouses or non-German underage children overseas regularly want to make use of family reunifications. We can represent you in your application for a family reunification visa, in enforcing your rights with embassies and overseas authorities, and in complaint proceedings before the Administrative Court in Berlin.

Visa law

It is usually necessary to obtain a visa from the relevant German embassy before travelling to Germany. Whether for study, a family reunification or a fast track procedure for skilled workers, you can benefit from our global experience in application and remonstration procedures with German embassies.

Citizenship law

For many foreign citizens, residing in Germany for an extended period of time culminates in a desire to take up German citizenship. We can provide comprehensive advice on your chances of naturalisation and manage your naturalisation proceedings before naturalisation authorities in all Länder. We also look after stateless clients and we are representing you in your citizenship determination procedure before the Federal Office of Administration.

It is a particularly good idea to work closely with a lawyer in matters of residence law. We can submit applications and legal opinions for you, get access to files and accompany you to hearings with the authorities.

We can also provide comprehensive advice on your opportunities for staying in Germany for longer, on issues such as changing your residence permit and purpose and on potentially getting indefinite leave to remain in order to get a settlement permit or naturalisation for you and your family. With the right legal advice, you can play an active part in increasing your chances of staying, acquiring relevant language certificates and diplomas, and planning your career for the long term with respect to German residence law.

We offer advice in German, English and French. In recent years, we have represented clients from more than 80 countries, the most common of which have been India, Iran, Israel, Cameroon, Nigeria, Syria, Tunisia, Turkey, Ukraine and the USA.

We can bring actions before the administrative court on your behalf, obtaining temporary legal relief and guiding you through the proceedings regarding admission of an appeal on points of fact and law (Berufungszulassungsverfahren), the proceedings regarding an appeal on points of fact and law (Berufungsverfahren) and the proceedings regarding an appeal on points of law (Revisionsverfahren).
